Industry: Photogrammetry & Aerial Surveying
Norcross,GA-- Leica Geosystems today announced a major sale of its airborne photogrammetry and remote sensing technology in South America.
ESTEIO Engenharia e Aerolevantamentos S.A., a leading mapping and engineering company in Brazil, has placed an order for a Leica ADS40 Airborne Digital Sensor and ALS50-II Airborne LiDAR Sensor. The sale was made through Comercial e Importadora Wild Ltda., Leica Geosystems' licensed dealer in Brazil.
"This is an important 'first' for the Brazilian mapping community," said Marco Antonio Carvalho, director of Wild Comercial. "The ADS40 is the first commercial, large-format, digital sensor to be deployed in Brazil, and will have a major impact on digital map production. The ALS50-II is the first state-of-the-art 150kHz LIDAR sensor delivered to the Brazilian market, and has the capacity to produce digital surface models of a density and accuracy never before available."
Valther Xavier Aguiar, technical director of ESTEIO, said, "Companies like ESTEIO need to be updated with the newest technology, and the acquisition of the Leica ADS40 and ADL50-II sensors will place us in a position of clear market leadership in the Brazilian cartography sector, offering our customers the highest levels of quality and productivity."
Guillermo M. Gallo, sensor sales manager for Latin America and the Caribbean for Leica Geosystems, commented, "ESTEIO is a world-class mapping company, holding many industry firsts in the Brazilian market. As the first to deploy these two new, state-of-the-art sensors in Brazil, ESTEIO reaffirms its position of technology leadership."
"This important advance is the result of a long and trusting relationship of more than 20 years between ESTEIO and Leica Geosystems," added Gallo. "We are honored that ESTEIO has chosen once again to place its trust in the technology and people of Leica Geosystems."
The high-performance ADS40 Airborne Digital Sensor is the first of its kind, delivering digital 16-bit data with the swath width and coverage area of a traditional film camera with five-centimeter spatial resolution. The system incorporates three sensors in one for black-and-white, color and false color imagery.
Designed to compile and assimilate topographical data for digital surface models and digital images from return signal intensity data, the ALS50-II is the most versatile and powerful LiDAR-based system in the industry. The ALS50-II can generate details under tree cover, record data at night and orthorectify imagery using specialized software.
