New Cost-Effective Prototyping Solution

New Cost-Effective Prototyping Solution
Paderborn, Germany - May 27, 2009 - dSPACE's new MicroAutoBox 1401/1507 is a particularly cost-effective prototyping solution for numerous gateway and bypassing applications in the field of ECU development/rapid prototyping. Like its big brother, MicroAutoBox 1401/1505/1507, the new MicroAutoBox is a compact, vehicle-capable real-time platform with a high-end processor and CAN, LIN and FlexRay bus interfaces. It also has a bypassing interface. The difference is that it does not have the standard I/O. This new "light" variation, with its numerous high-quality MicroAutoBox features, is the inexpensive solution for a whole range of different applications. When combined with RapidPro's intelligent I/O subsystem, it is ideal for engine control systems. Especially for aviation applications, its IP module slot - which in the standard version is used for FlexRay - can be given an ARINC interface by dSPACE Engineering Services.

All-Round Software Support
The MATLAB(r)/Simulink(r)/Stateflow(r) modeling tools are seamlessly integrated into the dSPACE prototyping environment. And with dSPACE's software Real-Time Interface (RTI), the connection between dSPACE hardware and the modeling tool, developers can implement their Simulink(r) models on the MicroAutoBox automatically without needing programming skills.

Compact and Solid
The MicroAutoBox is ideal for function development in the vehicle. Its robustness has been proven in shock and vibration tests, and its dimensions approximately match those of a real vehicle ECU. It has an integrated flight recorder that helps in later data analysis and error searches. The MicroAutoBox can also be coupled with a notebook and used for real-time data monitoring and parameter adjustment during test drives.

Bypassing with the MicroAutoBox - New Functions for Existing Controllers
With its integrated bypass interface (DPMEM), the MicroAutoBox 1401/1507 is ideal for bypass-based prototyping. The bypass method is used to optimize existing ECUs or rework parts of them according to the control strategy. Developers can also use bypassing as an easy way to adapt and extend ECU code, so they do not have to develop all the software functions for complex ECUs from scratch when the time allowed for development is tight. The new functions are implemented on the dSPACE prototyping system, and the existing ECU executes the "old" code and takes care of input/output. The necessary input data and the results are exchanged between MicroAutoBox and the original ECU.
