In spring 2001 a milestone was reached with the founding of the Fibre Metal Laminate Centre of Competence in Delft, The Netherlands. This independent foundation was started as a response to the rapid development of the Fibre Metal Laminate Glare® in aerospace industry. Main driver was of course the application of Glare® in a large quantity on the new flagship of Airbus, the twin-deck Airbus A380. Glare® panels with a total area of about 450 m2 will be used in the upper fuselage of each aircraft. A major achievement after numerous years of work performed by experts of research institutes, university and industry in The Netherlands.
